According to data recently released by LMC Automotive, the total global sales of light vehicles in May this year was approximately 7.447 million units, a year-on-year increase of 4.8; China and the United States both increased by more than 11% year-on-year, leading the rise for two consecutive months.

Based on the May sales rate, LMC estimates that total sales for the full year of 2014 will be 87,598,739 units. Based on the overall performance from January to May, it is estimated that the annual sales volume will be 86,768,148 units. The annualized SAAR of the sales rate in May 2013 was 84,419,335 units, which will increase by 2.8% year-on-year this year.
China and the U.S. led the gains. LMC's May light vehicle sales figures in the Chinese market were 1,935,887 units, an increase of 11.2% from 1,741,029 units in May last year. From January to May, the cumulative sales of light vehicles in the Chinese market was 9. 881,158 vehicles, 10.3% higher than the 8,956,429 vehicles in the same period last year.
Based on the sales rate in May, LMC estimated that the total sales volume in China in 2014 was 23,890,177 units. Based on the overall performance from January to May, it is estimated that the annual sales volume will be 23,286,247 units. The annualized SAAR of the sales rate in May 2013 was 21,875,132 units, which will increase by 6.5% year-on-year this year.
The U.S. auto market has begun to recover in recent months after a landslide caused by severe cold weather. May sales rose 11.3% year-on-year to 1,605,373 units from 1,442,061 units.
This has also reversed the decline in cumulative sales in the U.S. auto market this year. The cumulative sales volume of 3,687,533 units in the first four months was still slightly down; by May, the cumulative sales volume increased by 3.0% year-on-year from 15,572,933 units to 16,035,318 units.
